Cabin Design Look Book
When Matt and I decided to build our cabin on the lake,
I already had a very clear idea of how I wanted it to look. I wanted to try some new things and I wanted it to have a style that I had never played with before. Even though we are calling this our "cabin" it is not actually a log cabin by any means. It is more like a tiny home, if we're being honest. The design definitely has those touches that make it feel cabin-esque (that's a word, right?) with out the whole house being covered in wood.
The first thing I do when coming up with a design plan is to create what I like to call a "look-book" I gather inspiration for what I have envisioned by looking through Pinterest, Magazines, Blogs, ect. One of my favorite designers is Emily Henderson. She has a very informative and fun YouTube video that shows a quick step by step "how-to" on creating a design plan!
Overall the look I had in mind was "Modern-Rustic". The modern part is completely new to me. If you would have asked me a few years ago, heck even a few months ago.. I would have said NO to modern. It's crazy how much (and how quickly) your style and eye for things can change. I have been loving the modern designs I have been seeing everywhere! The rustic area I feel pretty confident in. Our home has quite of bit of "rustic charm" because of the items I have around the house. I tend to make/build/flea market a lot for the decor in our home.
Putting together a "look book" or "mood board" was so much fun since it is a style I haven't gotten to play with yet. This is only a small selection of photos, but it's the ones I felt most represented the vibe I was going for! This is just an overall feel of the cabin. Later on, I plan to go into detail of each room at the cabin.
The color scheme for the cabin has to be the absolute most BOLD color scheme I have ever put together. To some, well most, it probably seems very normal.. but have you seen my house, people? There is white..and a lot of it. I love a good pop of color every now and then but I definitely lean towards whites and neutrals when it comes to my house. I am stepping way out of my comfort zone for this cozy little cabin!
Green, navy, burgundy.. doesn't it already feel like a place you want to just cozy up in? I am really ready for the construction part to be finished so I can get to the fun stuff! We are so close.
What do you all like most about this "look-book"? If you were building a cabin, what would you change? Comment below and let me know! I love hearing from you all.
